File structure

A file holds a single model. Identifiers (id) must be unique within the file and cannot contain spaces or the characters / ? # \.

File structure
FieldTypeDescription
formatrequiredstringAlways “public-framework-exchange”.
formatVersionrequirednumberFormat version. Currently 1.
modelrequiredobjectThe model header.
elementsarrayThe model elements.
relationshipsarrayRelationships between elements.
viewsarrayThe model views.

Localized text fields accept either a { "ro": "…", "en": "…" } object or a plain string, read in the language given by model.language.

Model header

Model header
FieldTypeDescription
idrequiredstringStable identifier. Re-importing with the same id updates the existing model.
language"ro" | "en"Language of plain strings. Defaults to “ro”.
namerequiredlocalizedThe model name.
descriptionlocalizedWhat the model covers.
scopestringThe institution or domain modelled.
ownerstringWho is responsible for the model.
versionstringModel version, for example “0.3.0”.

Elements

Elements
FieldTypeDescription
idrequiredstringThe element identifier.
typerequiredstringA metamodel type, for example “Process”.
namelocalizedThe element name.
descriptionlocalizedThe element definition.
statusstringdraft, inReview, approved or retired. Defaults to draft.
versionstringThe element version.
propertiesobjectType-specific attributes. Values: text, number, boolean or a list of texts. References to other elements use their id.
sourcesarraySources: { kind, reference, url?, retrievedAt? }.

Relationships

Relationships

namelocalizedThe view name.
descriptionlocalizedWhat the view shows.
viewpointstringThe viewpoint: service, process, lifecycle, legal, technology and so on.
nodesrequiredarrayThe elements shown.
relationshipsarrayIds of the relationships shown. When omitted, every relationship between the nodes is shown.

A node is either a plain id or an { "element", "x", "y", "width", "height" } object. Views whose nodes have no coordinates are laid out automatically.

How it is validated

On import

A file is rejected if it is not valid JSON, misses required fields, repeats an id, or has a relationship or view pointing to an element that does not exist. Problems are reported with their exact path in the file, for example relationships[12].target.

After import

An accepted file is checked against the metamodel and the consistency rules. The results do not block publishing: they are shown publicly on the model page.
